Clinical research informatics meets genetics and PHRs… seems like a train wreck of utter geekiness, yet it’s so cool.
“The concept behind 23andWe is pretty simple: They provide me with easy, fun questions in survey form and I get to see how my answers compare to the rest of the 23andMe community. At the same time, 23andMe is correlating my answers to my genetic data (which they think...

Kristin Roovers was a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Pennsylvania with a bright career ahead of her—a trusted member of a research laboratory at the medical school studying the role of cell growth in diabetes.
But when an editor of The Journal of Clinical Investigation did a spot-check of one of her images for an article in 2005, Roovers’s research proved a little too perfect.

Analogies and Metaphors
hulse:
These are actual analogies and metaphors found in high school essays. - John and Mary had never met. They were like two hummingbirds who had also never met. - He fell for her like his heart was a mob informant and she was the East River. - Even in his last years, grandpappy had a mind like a steel trap, only one that had been left out so long, it had rusted shut. - Shots rang out,...

Guitar Hero 3 for the Wii
As you can tell in the pictures/video below, we got Guitar Hero 3 for our Wii a few weeks ago and it was an instant hit. Jared has already passed the entire game on Easy level and is now making his way through the game on Medium level (he is halfway there). Taryn can do the green, red and yellow colors (Easy level) with her left hand, but hasn’t figured out how to strum yet, so Dad helps...
Cumberland Pie
This is a variation on Cottage Pie (Beef) or Shepards Pie (lamb). It’s the exact same thing but is topped with some grated chedder cheese and sometimes some breadcrumb. It gives it a crunchy type of topping…its great…not too much breadcrumb though and topping should be added near the end to finish it off for another 10 minutes or so.

This is a very nice video of still images to a beautiful song, created as part of Reflections of Christ and posted by east valley productions. It is very nice and relaxing. If you need a moment to recharge during the day (as we all do sometimes), take a few minutes to watch this video.

A-Team Mountain House News
Hello everyone! I am really going to try to get back into the habit of writing every week. we have had a good week. aaron came home tuesday and we are enjoying the chocolate covered macadamia nuts and locals (just to be clear, he didn’t acutally bring back any hawaiians. locals are a brand of slippers.) that he brought home. ammon, who is usually a daddy’s boy, wouldn’t look at...

getting settled
Hello everyone! It has been awhile since I last wrote and so I feel like I have a lot to say, but will probably not say very much. We are settled in our home now. We really like our house and feel like we are getting settled in it. Of course there are still many boxes to unpack and pics to be hung, but that will happen one of these days I am sure. I have started working for Livermore school...
Last Minute Trip
I woke up 4:30am (CA time) Friday morning (4/18/08) to get to work for 2 conf calls that started at 6am. At that time I had plans to leave work at 2ish and come home for a relaxing “movie night” with the kids. Instead, I found myself at a huge, local Luau in Honolulu by 7:30pm (HI time). At about 7:15am I received 2 calls from my mom, but I was on a conf call. So, I called her back at...

Raclette, Fondue's Fun Cousin
While I was in Basel I was invited to dinner at the home of a colleague and she served us a Raclette dinner. It was great and so fun … I just had to get one for Allise. So, I bought one in Switzerland, but forgot about the voltage difference (stupid american!) and had to return it. I got one from amazon.com instead. We tried it out for dinner tonight and it was really fun. I highly...
