Last Minute Trip
I woke up 4:30am (CA time) Friday morning (4/18/08) to get to work for 2 conf calls that started at 6am. At that time I had plans to leave work at 2ish and come home for a relaxing “movie night” with the kids. Instead, I found myself at a huge, local Luau in Honolulu by 7:30pm (HI time).
At about 7:15am I received 2 calls from my mom, but I was on a conf call. So, I called her back at 8am and she asked me, “Do you want to go to Hawaii for the weekend?” Now, how do you say no to such a request. So, I called Allise and we worked it out that I would join my Dad to go visit Kahea and his kids (Joshua and Solimon) in Hawaii for the weekend.
I only had 1 hour in between meetings … so, I starting making phone calls, and looking up flights to leave that day … and I found a flight leaving later that day and returning on Tuesday (4/22/08) for $550. I grabbed it with just 5 mins left before another meeting I had to attend. The meeting was from 9-10, then I had some before my next meeting which was from 1-2pm. So, I text messaged Allise, she packed a bag for me, and we both left at around 10ish to meet between Fremont and Pleasanton (just off the I-680, east of Niles Canyon). I got my back from her, we had lunch in Fremont, then I got back to the office just in time for the meeting.
I cleaned things up at work and left after the meeting to meet Bekah and Dad at Bekah’s office in South San Francisco, leave my car there, and she dropped us off at the airport (we were on the same flight) … and we caught our flight departing at 4:45pm (CA time). We arrived in HI at 7:10pm (HI time). Kahea picked us up and took us straight to a huge local Luau at the Honolulu tabernacle. It was fun to see family and friends there and eat some “ono” food, while watching many different performances … that were all honoring the 80th birthday of a member of the Auilimu ward.
Saturday we helped move some furniture and take care of things for Kahea and Nisi, but we made sure to hit the beach and Kahea’s hot tub in the evening. That was amazing.
Today is Solimon’s baby blessing. I’m thankful to be here for it and am really looking to that special event. Afterwards Kahea has invited family and friends over for a bbq — Hawaiian-style. I’ll have to post more about this afterwards. I also need to post some pics. I didn’t bring my camera, but I can probably find pics of the kids and hot tub, etc.
