It bothers me when the “no on 8” supporters call us intollerant. They stole our sign from our yard and one man made an offensive gesture towards me on the highway last week. Is that their way of showing tollerance?

Taryn was so excited to start Kindergarten. Her teachers name is Miss Berlanga. This is her 3rd year of teaching. She seems really nice and Taryn likes her. Taryn had fun picking out her first day of school outfit. She also loves her backpack. I may be prejudiced, but I think she was the cutest kindergarten there this morning. :) After school she said she thought it was really fun, but a little long. Her favorite part of the day was playing on the playground at recess. I was so proud of her that she didn’t cry and was so brave about going.

After a rough year last year, we fought to make sure Jared was with a good teacher this year and with some friends. His teacher’s name is Mrs. Zemlock. He was excited to see his friend Joey from church get to school the same time as him. The one thing Jared really wanted for school this year was a rolling backpack. He was excited that Joey had one as well. Joey also came over to our house for a bit after school. Jared’s favorite part of the day was playing a math game in his class. This is the first year that Jared came home really excited about school and feeling confident. What a great way to start the year!

Kristin Roovers was a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Pennsylvania with a bright career ahead of her—a trusted member of a research laboratory at the medical school studying the role of cell growth in diabetes.

But when an editor of The Journal of Clinical Investigation did a spot-check of one of her images for an article in 2005, Roovers’s research proved a little too perfect.

The image had dark bands on it, supposedly showing different proteins in different conditions. “As we looked at it, we realized the person had cut and pasted the exact same bands” over and over again, says Ushma S. Neill, the journal’s executive editor. In some cases a copied part of the image had been flipped or reversed to make it look like a new finding. “The closer we took a look, the more we were convinced that the data had been fabricated or manipulated in order to support the conclusions.”
